The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) has welcomed Anna Burles as its new President

The BIID AGM marked the official hand-over from outgoing President Liz Bell to Anna Burles, founding creative director of award-winning interiors and branding design studio Run For The Hills

Anna commented: “I’m truly honoured to take on this role. During my term as President, I want to support the BIID in sounding the drum louder than ever about the truly unique set of skills that professional interior designers bring to the table. I also want to support the next generation, bringing industry, educators and students together to explore the future of the profession and ensuring our professional skills continue to grow alongside the changing demands of our industry. Through the BIID, we have a valuable opportunity to connect, share knowledge and support one another, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve in the year ahead.”

The AGM also saw the announcement of this year’s Merit Award winner. The Award recognises a BIID member who has demonstrated excellence across three key areas: interior design practice, contribution to the development of the institute and commitment to the wider field of design education. Chosen by the BIID Awards Committee, the 2026 Merit Award was presented to BIID Registered Interior Designer, Mathew Freeman, founder of Freeman Studio and BIID Past President
