A striking new collection from Tom Faulkner, plus mermaid wallpaper and doggy trims. These are the new products that caught my eye this week
Tom Faulkner has launched Skye a new collection of furniture that straddles the gap between art and functionality. A year in the making, Skye tables, stools and consoles take inspiration from standing stones, such as the Avebury circle, as well as from British artists Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Made from British steel at the Tom Faulkner workshop in Swindon, Skye centres on the beauty and intrigue of the elegantly formed ellipse, held safely within a contrasting cloud-like shape. Tom says, “This is an important collection for the brand. Not only are we unveiling a new shape, we have also experimented with the properties of stainless steel, harnessing its potential. Skye is a celebration of the brand’s 30-year heritage and I am overjoyed to have the support and skills of my loyal team, many of whom have been with me for over 20 years. Skye is a collection that speaks of my personal design and artistic inspiration, the elegance and organic beauty of Barbara Hepworth and the statuesque aesthetic of Henry Moore’s public sculptures. I’m excited for the collection to be enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”
Brick House Design has developed a collection of wallpapers and fabrics based on original designs by influential British artist and illustrator Edward Bawden. Bawden’s crisp often humorous style is captured in designs featuring fish, mermaids and fruit. Brick House Design, founded by Bawden’s grandson Tom Russell, is named after Bawden’s home where he lived with his wife and cats until 1970.
For those who love dogs, Westminster is a charming new collection of borders from Samuel & Sons. The collection features four distinctive boucle and embroidery borders on linen grounds, each portraying a different breed including a Scottie, a Goldador, a Coton de Tulear and a Poodle.
From mid-century modern materials and forms, to the simple handcrafted aesthetic of the Arts and Crafts movement, Heathfield & Co’s SS24 collection draws on a range of vintage styles, blending them with modern design details for a timeless look. Featuring 25 designs across table and floor lamps, wall lights, pendants and chandeliers, this collection combines long-lasting natural materials such as wood, marble, alabaster and glass.
