This week’s product launches

Retro wallpaper, shotgun inspired knob handles and an innovative new solid surface material – these are the product launches that caught my eye this week.

Award winning designer Erica Wakerly has launched Modern Flock (image above) a collection of contemporary flock wallpapers that combine traditional processes with a modern aesthetic.

The series comprises four new wallpaper designs that have been created with homes as well as hotels, restaurants and retail spaces in mind.

Erica is drawn to geometric compositions and metallic colours that interact with light to create a new dimension. With Modern Flock she wanted to take her signature style in a new direction and use the flock effect to create wallpapers with a tactile finish.

Rebel Knit wallpaper from The Curious Department

Sticking with wallpaper, The Curious Department will launch the Preziosa collection in July.

The collection features three designs, which will be available across wallpaper, fabrics, lampshades and cushions. Designed and made in the UK, Preziosa is available in four colourways and includes this striking Rebel Knit design taking inspiration from the styling and upholstery of luxury hotels in the seventies.

Old CDs recycled as a solid surface material by Revive Innovations

I met Kieran Devlin, the young designer behind Revive Innovations at Clerkenwell Design Week.

In his final year at university, while studying product design, he noticed that vast quantities of CDs are becoming obsolete each month resulting in an estimate of over 1 million years of decomposition in landfill.

With the aim of promoting circular, sustainable design Kieran has produced a composite made from 100% recycled CDs (no silicone added). This sparkling but robust surface material has the appearance of crushed shells and is itself recyclable. Revive Innovations has already attracted impressive customers including Netflix and The Design Museum.

The Cartridge from Turnstyle Designs

The Cartridge is the latest cabinet knob from Devon manufacturer Turnstyle Designs.

Designer Christina Roberts was inspired by a modern shotgun cartridge. What really caught her eye was the outer brass casing with a 1mm leading edge which allows a hunter to pull cartridges from their cartridge belts with ease. Christina realised this would also work for a cabinet knob.

Cartridge is available in 45 different finish combinations and two size options.
