Here are my thoughts on what to look out for at this year’s Decorex
I know London Design Festival and Focus are next week (you can read my previews for those shows here) but let’s keep the momentum going and start planning ahead for Decorex 2022, 9 – 12 October at Olympia London, promoted as ‘the ultimate destination for high end interiors’.
I love Decorex, there is always something new to see but also the show isn’t so big that you can’t get round all the exhibitors. It is also the perfect opportunity to network – last year I spent more time in the aisles chatting than I did on the stands!
But if cruising the aisles gets a bit too much, take a seat in the Decorex bar. The inspiration came from the convivial ambience of a bustling Italian bar, with striped awnings and a chequered floor. The bar has been designed by interior design practice Carden Cunietti and will feature pieces from Decorex exhibitors including wallcoverings from Arte and Cole & Sons and lighting from J Adams & Co.
Meanwhile, award winning architecture and interior design studio De Rosee Sa has designed the Decorex VIP Lounge. Director Max de Rosee says “We drew inspiration from 1970’s airport lounges, looking at how seating was rigorously arranged in geometrical patterns to create a sense of focus in a much larger space. We explored how this concept can generate a sense of atmosphere.”
Other features to look out for at this year’s show include: Diningscapes, celebrating the popularity of tablescaping with four room sets created by leading interior designers; Live demonstrations by makers showing the skill behind their craft; and of course the popular talks programme is back. I’m delighted to be in conversation with design business coach Katy Stevenson Bretton on Monday 10th at 11am, and then I am also chairing a discussion at 3.00pm called How Our Lifestyle Rituals Impact Design. I hope to see you there.
