Introducing Ateliers Lemaître

For over fifty years Ateliers Lemaître has worked with natural stone to create bespoke decors that honor artisanal craftsmanship

Family run Ateliers Lemaître is based in the Aisne region of France, in the heart of the village of Chierry, with a smart showroom in Paris.

The company designs and creates exceptional pieces in natural stone from staircases to furniture, fireplaces to floors with each project conceived as a dialogue between material, architecture and use.

By taking responsibility for every stage of the production process: technical studies, material selection, fabrication, finishing and installation, Ateliers Lemaître is able to support architects and interior designers with even the most demanding projects. “What makes Ateliers Lemaître truly distinctive is our ability to manage projects entirely in‑house, whatever their scale – from design through to installation – while allowing architects and interior designers complete creative freedom”  says Yannic Lallemant, Technical  Director at Ateliers Lemaître.

Alongside new creations, Ateliers Lemaître is also an expert in restoration, committed to bringing historic pieces back to life, with full respect for their history and spirit. Restoration of the stone pieces requires skilled knowledge of the materials and their original use. Traditional tools and the reconstruction of pigments – found in pieces located in antique shops and street markets – is a precious way to give life back to material from a previous century.

It’s all about the stone

Marble, quartzite, travertine or rare stones are all carefully selected from trusted quarries and suppliers both in France and internationally then transported to the workshop where the work of veining, invisible joints, sculpted profiles and technical tolerances is undertaken. For each project, the stone is chosen for its aesthetic qualities as well as for its long-term performance. Alongside the traditional cutting and polishing tools used in the workshop a new digital machine has answered the demand for increasingly intricate decorative accessories.

“We wish to reveal new ways of seeing marble – its modernity and its ability to engage in dialogue with contemporary architecture. We highlight a historic savoir-faire, passed down from generation to generation and demonstrate how French artisanal excellence transforms stone into a living, precise and elegant work. Our ambition: to show that stone, when shaped with rigor and creativity, becomes a language in its own right and a vehicle for emotion and enduring beauty.”

Project: Monsieur Bleu

For the restaurant Monsieur Bleu, at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Ateliers Lemaître designed a fireplace surround (above) along with arches in Noir Saint‑Laurent – two statement pieces that elevate the space. Assembled using a bonding technique, the fireplace creates the illusion of a single monolithic block, a method the company has mastered over the years.

The project also includes banquette backs in Vert du Connemara, entirely crafted using continuous veining. This technique ensures a seamless visual flow of the stone’s natural pattern along the full length of the seating, without interruption. Achieving such a refined result required meticulous research and preparation upstream, to deliver a finish that met Ateliers Lemaître’s exacting standards.

You can meet Ateliers Lemaître at French Craft Collective during London Craft Week : 10am to 5pm, Tuesday 12 May 2026, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH
