Location House

Have you ever considered promoting your home as a location house? Here’s your chance to win a free course valued at £349

I recently met Suzie Tipple co-founder of The Shoot Academy, an online course aimed at giving you all the tools you need to successfully style and market your home as a shoot location.

Suzie reassures me your home can be any size and in any location because there is always demand for properties for use in film and TV or for magazine photo shoots, even music videos. She stresses that the best way to maximise your asset is to look at the property as a whole, tuning into exterior as well as interior features and identifying unique selling points.

Founders of Shoot Academy for location house

Shoot Academy was founded by Suzie Tipple and Louise Mardon who were both regularly hosting photoshoots in their homes. Suzie says, “We kept getting messages from friends, friends-of-friends and even total strangers saying, ‘How did you get into this? Could I do it too?’ We realised there was a real appetite for more than just a quick overview – people wanted to understand the whole picture. What makes a good host? What actually happens on shoot day? How do you feel prepared rather than panicked when a crew knocks on the door? Location agencies do a brilliant job of connecting homes with clients and their FAQs are a great starting point. What we wanted to do was build something alongside that – something that supports a wider community of hosts, not just in getting listed, but in feeling ready, confident and in control once the bookings come in.”

Susie says that she finds the experience of offering her home as a location house enjoyable, “Our homes are used regularly for photoshoots, but we also host the occasional filmed job when it suits. Louise and I have both found a rhythm that works for our own lives and families and we only say yes to the shoots that feel like a good fit. There’s some prep involved, of course, but once you know what to expect, it’s very manageable. We’ve developed systems that make it easy to reset between shoots and keep everything running smoothly. We enjoy it, it brings a nice energy into the house and honestly, once you know this is an option, it’s hard to imagine not doing it. It’s such a simple way to put your home to good use, with very little effort and the fact it brings in extra money, well, that’s a huge bonus.”
