Well last week certainly gave us a taste of summer. I actually prized my feet out of trainers and ventured into sandals – in March!
This giddy behaviour inspired me to investigate new furnishings that have been launched for outdoor spaces including a durable rug, bright yellow aluminium table and a Moroccan inspired chair.
While not exactly suited to outdoor (it is more for the conservatory) I am including the new furniture collection from Birdie Fortescue just because it is so charming. Teras sofa, side table and dining chairs are available in green, blue and pink
It was while working on a concept for a hotel in Marrakech that designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance had the idea for the Ottoman outdoor chair – inspired by the traditional Moroccan footstool. The chair is now produced by Ligne Roset as both fixed and rotating versions
Hotel and real estate business Domaine & Demeure has been sourcing products for its destination chateaux in the South of France since 2008. Tried and tested at the chateaux, the outdoor furniture collection is now available in the UK including weather resistant rattan loungers, modular low seating and dining sets. The cushions are upholstered in UV resistant, all weather French grey fabric and finished in ecru piping for a classic look.
Artist and textile designer Serena Dugan has introduced a collection of performance fabrics available exclusively in the UK from The Fabric Collective. Mexico City’s bold colours and architecture are a familiar theme for Dugan and the Condesa print (shown) was influenced by mid-century Mexican architect Luis Barragan’s graphic work. Available in four colourways
Designer Jennifer Newman is using ‘uplifting colour and positive pattern’ for her new collection of garden furniture, as an antidote to our lockdown blues. The collection includes an over-sized social dining table ‘to crowd everyone around’ and colourful planters to lift our spirits. The Linear table and bench are manufactured in Britain from recycled aluminium.
Juliettes Interiors’ spring/summer collection includes L shaped modular sofas, side tables and occasional chairs in teak and iroko wood. Upholstery is UV and water resistant and items can be customised.
Catellani & Smith outdoor lights are designed to merge with the foliage to create a magical atmosphere. The deliberately irregular surface of the glass diffuser on the More collection is reminiscent of wild blackberries. Available in three finishes – transparent, amber and green. The lights can be hung to illuminate a pergola, placed on the grass, or mounted on a metal stem.
Nanimarquina produces handmade rugs. The latest addition is Tres, available in two colourways. The rugs are made from 100% recycled PET fibre which is both durable and easy to maintain. The rugs are soft to the touch so that the new Tres collection has the look and feel of an indoor rug while being water and weatherproof.
For its indoor/outdoor fabrics, Warner House combine high performance yarns with a touch of natural linen resulting in fabrics that are rich in colour and texture but also durable. The range include prints, stripes and useful plains across 25 different designs.
