This week’s product launches

Lamps from Italy, tiles inspired by the Marrakesh medina and a classic basin revisited. These are the products that caught my eye this week

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Starck Barrel, Duravit has renewed its partnership with Philippe Starck to present an updated version. The revised basin demonstrates how glossy and matt ceramics, new lacquers and innovative c-bonded technology can combine form and function to produce a unified whole.

Domus has launched Meridian, an exclusive collaboration with designer Lindsey Lang. The new Porcelain tile range comprises three distinct pattern layouts – wedge, spin and luna – in colour combinations that range from blues, browns and greens to softer mixes of pink and yellow with neutrals. Lang’s signature print designs are based around mid-century style and translate well onto tiles.

Let’s stick with tiles for a moment to take a look at Marrakesh Stripes from Otto Tiles & Design. The new mosaic tiles draw inspiration from the vivid hues and intricate patterns seen in the Marrakesh medina, with a lively medley of square and rectangular hand crafted Moroccan clay zellige tiles mounted on a mesh backing. There are five colour palettes to choose from, including Pistachio, Espresso, and Paprika shown above. (Meet Otto’s founder Damla Turgut)

Although best known for their tiles, Fired Earth also sells bathroom fittings and has recently introduced coloured basins to its collection. Rio bowls (above) are available in subtle tones of sage, blush and grey with a slim profile and 45cm diameter

From Penny Morrison, Amara ceramic lamp basis are hand thrown on the potters wheel in Northern Italy, where they are made from local clay and glazed in blue, mustard or red. The area, close to Florence, has been producing ceramic ware since the Medici era of the 1400s with skills passed down through the generations.
