Fritz Hansen has announced the launch of the PK23 lounge chair by Poul Kjærholm, a sculptural expression of moulded plywood, a double shell seat and crafted metal detailing. Designed in 1954, when the 25 year old Dane was exploring plywood and industrial techniques, the PK23 was never produced until now. To put the the chair into production for 2024, Fritz Hansen worked with Kjærholm’s children, Thomas and Krestine, remaining true to the original design, with minimal adjustments.
From Rupert Bevan, the Vita range was inspired by the language of classical architecture, the patinated brass columns and capitals give a great sense of structure and proportion to the shelving which is made of lightly lacquered walnut or can be wrapped in a leather of choice. The patinated brass bracing at the sides is slightly evocative of early bi-planes and adds a nod of old-world style in a modern context. The range includes a console, side table and an étagère (shown above) that was designed in collaboration with interior designer Guy Goodfellow for his WOW! house drawing room for Tissus d’Hélène (meet Rupert Bevan here)
