Matteo Bianchi Studio transformed an ’emotionally blank’ house into a vibrant, welcoming home
Can you tell me a bit about the property? Its a Victorian terraced house. Recently extended at the back
Who was your client for this project what was their brief? The client was a couple and their three kids aged from 9 to 17
What was your starting point for the interior? Once I sat down with the client, I immediately realised the house their architect designed, when managing the extension, had no personality at all, or at least didn’t reflect theirs
They love entertaining and spending time with friends at home and are not afraid of bold colours, if balanced well and in an harmonious way
Their lifestyle was quite fun. A typical weekend scenario would include a colourful and vibrant dinner, then the men might go in the basement to watch movies, drink or play ping pong whilst the ladies would move upstairs into the drawing room or library
How did you decide on the colour palette? I listened to the different needs and vibes that each room/floor required. The basement has a vibrant, south American influenced cinema room, connected by an extensive bar and a cool home gym with high end gym equipment (Technogym) and storage facilities for the extra guests
The ground floor needed to connect the kitchen with the family TV room leading into the dining room. Here the clients were keen to introduce unexpected colour as long as it was combined by chic and elegant furniture
The first floor introduces a classy drawing room connecting to a modern, souq inspired library full of personality
The master bedroom, contrary to all the other rooms, gives the clients a cocooning and relaxing feel, somewhere to wind down and get some rest between their business trips and hectic lifestyle
Did you specify any bespoke pieces for the project? Yes, the dining table and credenza within the dining room, which is one of our product collections designed for Itlas
What was the biggest challenge? We understand how daunting it can be to stand out and express your style and our challenge was to guide and reassure the clients at every stage. Each floor has a clever balance between bold and elegance
Now that the project is finished. What is your favourite design feature? I absolute love the energy of the cinema room (above) and the vibrant contrast between colour, art and elegance of the dining room
