Award-winning interior designer, Suzy Hoodless, takes us inside her family home, sharing a personal project that showcases the transformative power of colour and design as life evolves
The latest images from Suzy Hoodless mark a significant refresh of her London town house, moving from the vibrant, high-energy palette of the family’s early years to a more layered, sophisticated and calming atmosphere.
Fourteen years ago, when her children were small, Suzy filled her home with bold, bright colours, reflecting the.joy and vibrancy of family life. Now, with her children older, she felt it was time for a change. She says, “It felt like time for a refresh. I’ve introduced a deeper, more sophisticated palette to create a calmer, more grown-up atmosphere. It’s a reminder of the incredible power of colour – how it can completely transform the mood and feel of a space.”

This personal project reinforces Suzy’s core design philosophy: “Every room should feel like you. Just as I’ve designed my own space to reflect who I am, we love working with our clients to create homes that truly reflect their personalities and the way they live.”
In the sitting room, Suzy has wrapped the walls in her own Pines of Kernow wallpaper, a design developed in collaboration with Adam Ellis Studio. Its rich, enveloping tones set the backdrop for a carefully curated mix of contemporary and vintage pieces, creating a room that feels both dramatic and inviting. The pattern adds a sense of texture and movement, anchoring the new, darker palette while reflecting Suzy’s signature ability to balance boldness with timeless elegance.

In the kitchen, the transformation is striking. Once painted in a vibrant blue, the cabinets and woodwork are now finished in a deep aubergine from Papers & Paints. The darker hue creates a more grounded, sophisticated feel, while still allowing colour to play a starring role. Bright red J39 Mogensen chairs inject a playful pop, echoing the red accents in the Sandberg Ofelia curtain fabric and tying the scheme together with Suzy’s signature flair for bold, confident contrasts.

The sense of depth continues into the library, where Suzy has carried through the darker palette with a different shade of deep burgundy. The enveloping colour creates an intimate, cocooning atmosphere – the perfect backdrop for her ever-growing collection of books. A keen and eclectic collector, Suzy draws inspiration from a myriad of subjects and the shelves here reflect that passion. For her, a library is more than just a room for reading; it’s the heart of the home, a space that tells a story of curiosity, creativity, and the life lived within its walls

Suzy’s small WC has been transformed into a space of character and drama, thanks to a bold application of Rose Uniacke’s Thyme paint. This dark green hue envelops the tiny room, turning what could be a bland utility space into a jewel box. Using such an intense and deep colour in the smallest room of the house is an excellent design tactic; it allows for a dramatic statement without overwhelming a larger space, creating an intimate atmosphere that is both sophisticated and memorable.

The bedrooms reflect distinct, thoughtful approaches to comfort and personality. The master bedroom is a true retreat, described by Suzy as “my sanctuary’. It is defined by plaster pink walls that create a soft mood. The space is built on layers of texture – from the headboard and cushions to the curtains. Every piece was carefully chosen to make the room feel “cosy, curated, and completely me.”
