Handles made from lava, magnetic wood and flock inspired fabrics. Here are the products that caught my eye this week
Studio Ler work with enamelled lava to create unusual handles in an unlimited choice of colours (image above). Based in France, the company adds a decorative enamel to this extremely hardwearing substance which is mainly sourced in Puy de la Nugère and the Puy du Sancy. Auvergne has no less than 80 volcanoes, so the lava is readily available.

Morgan is a family run business that has been in operation for over 30 years. At CDW this year they launched the new Barricane dining chair designed by British designer Magnus Long. The chair is a contemporary design that pays homage to the traditional craft of caning. Unusual for a manufacturer, Morgan has its own caning station at its factory in Hampshire and, as with all its designs, everything is made to order to keep its carbon footprint low and avoid waste.
